Looking for Peace? Joy? Love? Hope?
Contentment and joy. Peace and hope. That’s what we all want in life. But where do we find it?
We live in a world where awful stuff happens. We can get wrapped up with the “WHAT IF’s” in our life:
- WHAT IF the doctor says the big “C” word…
- WHAT IF I have a car accident…
- WHAT IF my house burns down…
- WHAT IF … it can go on and on…
I have learned that for every “WHAT IF” question, God gives me an “EVEN IF” answer:
- EVEN IF I have to face my worst fear, God is still in control…
- EVEN IF things don’t turn out the way I want, God’s love is sufficient…
- EVEN IF ….God is still faithful and His promises are still true.
Jesus is where you can turn
When we are caught up with trials and fear, we can trust Him no matter what life brings. Jesus calls for us to come to Him and He promises to give the peace, security and calm that we so desperately need.
Come unto me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. My yoke is easy and my burden is light.Matthew 11: 28-29
In this passage of scripture there’s a clear sense He wants to take our heartaches upon himself. And He wants to include all of us. He cares for everyone the same. He meant for all of us to have hope, peace, and joy.
The Eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.Deuteronomy 33:27
God is eternal – forever!
He is our refuge – a place where we can run and hide. A place where we can nestle down and show our inner feelings. A place where we can be ourselves, feeling safe and warm. When our hearts are overwhelmed and we need a place to hide, we can run to Him. We can tell Him our deepest feelings because He knows our deepest pain. When we put our trust in God, we have a safe place to land – in God’s arms. Just beneath our deepest despair, His arms are waiting to catch us. In this quiet shelter of His arms, we can be ourselves. He knows us fully and accepts us just as we are. Here in this place of refuge, we can say whatever is on our heart. We can start a relationship with him.
It is not about what we do
We don’t have to be good enough, because we can’t be good enough. We all make mistakes. We all do things we shouldn’t; things we aren’t proud of. We aren’t perfect. We are human. That’s what is so amazing about His grace. He loves us just the way we are. It is not about us. It is all about Jesus and what he did for us. When he died on the cross, he did it for us. He did it to make things right. He forgives us when we ask him to be a part of our life.
- You can have peace and contentment.
- You can have hope and rest in the promises that He has given.
- You can find purpose and meaning in life.
- You can have a relationship with him – on this earth and then forever in heaven.
It is always our choice
He never forces us. He invites us to put our trust in Him. He patiently waits for us to come to Him. It is up to us. It is our choice – It is your choice…
If you would like a way to respond to God, I would encourage you to pray the prayer below and then find a strong, local church where you can build a relationship with Jesus Christ. Get yourself a Bible and start reading – I John is a good place to start. Bless you as you start this journey with Jesus!
Dear Jesus, I have disobeyed you throughout my life and I want your forgiveness. I want to be changed and I need your help. Please come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. You died on the cross so that I could be forgiven of my sins. Please forgive me and give me the gift of your Holy Spirit. Make me into the person you intend me to become. Help me to follow you the rest of my life. AMEN
